DIVINE and Refined Look 06....Spring 2011 COUTURE...Just for Fun

Monday, January 31, 2011

For those making or participating in an upcoming simcha, event, or special occasion  (and who ISN'T?),  here's your chance to dream a little and get inspired! Let the creativity flow and just have fun with the process.

I was completely thrilled and inspired by some of the divine, refined and and absolutely SUBLIME looks that were featured at the spring 2011 couture shows. John Galliano from Dior was by far the most creative in accomplishing the difficult task of combining both dramatic AND refined looks...with many skirts hovering below the knee and tops featuring long sleeves and high necklines.

Givenchy also featured amazing versatility with creative design and full coverage as shown in these heavenly gold and cream dresses:

The Chanel and Valentino runways featured  confections of lace, tulle and feathers in tones of blush, peach and silver. This is the stuff of fashion dreams....

While these dresses may make some people faint of heart, others prefer cleaner lines and a more simplistic approach when getting all dressed up. Valentino is a sure bet for that ultra fem and classic look:

And once again, black doesn't have to be boring...a great tulle party skirt paired with a fitted black jacket makes a great outfit. Finish it off with a dramatic necklace and crimson lips.
Shop the Look:
While you may have to take out a second mortgage to finance some of the outfits above, here are some really pretty pieces inspired by them. Just add a matching shell and a fab pair of shoes:
Sue Wong Beaded Gown with Organza Petals $628,  Max Azria Asymmetrical White Silk Gown $650,  Alice and Olivia Embellished Tulle Top $395, Alberta Ferretti Pink Chiffon Evening Length Skirt $830,  Ralph LaurenSilver Pencil Skirt $399

I was also SO inspired by the haute hairstyles and makeup of the spring couture runway shows. Try one of these looks for your next event:
A taffeta ribbon sprinkled with rhinestones and tied into an oversized bow makes a dramatic headband. Twist your hair back into a sophisticated bun and add a glitzy rhinstone comb, try wearing a sublime white feather  headpiece close to the forehead or wear a black floral headband across your forehead for a dramatic change.

Finish your party look with the tres chic crimson lip:

It's not always easy to carry off deep red lips. Here are some tips to make it work:
1. Keep the rest of your makeup to a minimum. Smooth on a sheer foundation,  add a little mascara and that's all you need.
2. Make sure your lips are well hydrated and exfoliated. You can do this by combining a little petroleum jelly or olive oil with sugar and gently rubbing on your lips. Wipe off and your ready to apply.
3. Apply a drop of foundation to your lips to neutralize the natural color, line your lips in a matching shade (or you can slightly mute the red by using a natural lip liner) and apply the red lipstick with a lip brush.
4. I find blond hair and pale skin look amazing with red lips...brunettes usually need a red with cooler blue tones. This also helps keep your teeth looking whiter. Some great ones to try are Mac Russian Red, Nars Jungle Red and Kat Von D in Underage Love.

And the best beauty tip of all? Don't get too stressed out from preparing for any occasion...there's real beauty in imperfection and everything works out the way its supposed to anyway ;)  Try to be thankful for the blessings in your life and enjoy the creative process!

Have a glamorous day,

Sharon
