Great Expectations

Although I may be a little rusty, ok, more like a fish out of water....I'm doing it...a little blog on maternity style. I love all of your comments and suggestions and I've been asked to do a post on maternity style so here it is. Although my 'baby' will be turning 10 this summer, I still went through 5 pregnancies in 10 years and I definitely remember those days of fabulous largeness.

Although there really is no feeling more glorious than carrying a growing life inside you, it does come with its (well worth it) drawbacks:
1. Your body will NEVER be the same again.
2. You may experience intense nausea, yet somehow need to overeat anyway.
3. You will feel huge and yucky no matter how good everyone else thinks you look.
4. You will feel 10 degrees hotter than everyone else...which is horrid in the summer.
5. You will always feel like there's a lack of decent clothing!!

For 1,2, and 3...try to eat mostly fruits, veggies, whole grains, and lean protein; being pregnant is no excuse to inhale the snack cabinet, you WILL regret it if you do and baby does NOT need processed foods full of fat and sugar.

Keep exercising (I had notably easier births after the pregnancies which I maintained my exercise). Make sure to enjoy and marvel at the amazement of your body and its abilities because it does bounce back...somewhat.

For number 4, keep hydrated with bottles of ice water, and lucky you, hats are in! Wear them.

And for number 5, well you girls are really lucky.  My youngest daughter, Simi was born almost 10 years ago...which is about the time when suddenly clothes became a bit more fitted, empire waists came into fashion, and designers started taking notice of the need for chic maternity wear. Be grateful you girls can look so much better than I did when all we had to wear were hideous tent like dresses and tops. (No wonder I could not find one picture of me pregnant to post here...I allowed no camera to get near me!)

Wearing white will keep you looking fresh and and stylish while maintaining your 'cool'.

Fashion do's and don'ts for expectant dressing:

DO invest in white, it is both versatile and cool as your go to summer color.
DO wear sleek maxi skirts with simple and comfy tee's. Make sure the maxi isn't too voluminous.
DO buy items with soft ruffles or ruching...this is a great way to camouflage volume.
DO accessorize! Try a pair of great shaped sunglasses, a bold necklace, chunky bangles or a flowy lightweight scarf to add interest and balance to your ensemble.
DON'T be afraid to go graphic in your patterns.
DON'T wear 6 inch heels...your center of balance is off and you do NOT want to fall!

I found that Isabella Oliver, Asos, and A Pea in the Pod all have a decent selection of cute maternity clothes. Here are a few pieces I adore:

Classic white cotton blouse with wide tie belt.  Isabella Oliver $119
Ruffle Front Tunic, Asos, $41.37
Striped Jersey Knit Maxi Dress, Old Navy $33.94
Art Deco Beaded Dress, Asos,  $163.77
And finish with a comfy pair of nude flats:
Badgley Mischka Nude Dainty Flats $130

Jeffrey Campbell Ruffly Flats $69.99
Have a fabulous evening and get some well deserved rest for the week ahead.
