SUMMER AT THE JERSEY SHORE - PART ONE

Thursday, July 07, 2011

Unfortunately the Jersey Shore, and New Jersey in general have a pretty bad rep. But if you live here you know that this is one of the most beautiful places to live in the summertime. And if you seek out beauty and inspiration in the little things close to home than you may be surprised to find the most amazing treasures right in your own back yard.

I had a lovely fourth of July weekend and I was lucky to able to get away with my husband for a few days. I started my weekend on a shimmering Friday morning, camera in hand, for a stroll around one of my favorite, not-so-famous beach towns close by. (There are really so many!)

This is the beach house I pass on my way onto the beach

I love this photo! I was amazed how regal the flags looked all lined up in perspective.

The boardwalk where I 'pretend' I'm exercising...more like exercising my spirit!

Love those crashing waves!

Friday is usually a busy day, so after the beach I came home, finished cooking for Shabbos, took my son for a haircut, did some more errands and then it was pool time!
Our pool!

I love this stepping stone. I ordered them from Ballard Designs a few years ago.

This is the 'up view' from my backyard.
Sunday was a dreary, rainy day, but on Monday (July 4th) my husband and I took a little ride to another great (and a BIT more famous) Jersey Shore beach town. We checked into my favorite hotel and then went out to the boardwalk for fireworks.

Colors of the sky.

A pretty and pink world...for just a moment.
 FIREWORKS!!

Back at the hotel I decided to photograph some of my all time favorite design elements. No matter how many times I return I am inspired by their beauty.
As an aspiring artist I am always in awe of beautiful murals.

A dramatic painted ceiling and an even more dramatic chandelier create another interesting 'up-view'.

A modern and handsome grouping in the lobby.

The famous lobby chandelier, created entirely of glass swirls.
The next day we took a nice stroll to the beach and spent a few hours just chilling.
This pier dates back to family vacations of my childhood.

Ornate and interesting architecture of another famous hotel.

That's me on the beach! Hat: Arden B, Crop cardigan: Target, Sunglasses: Tom Ford, Striped maxi: Arden B, White tee: Kiki Riki, Gold watch, Michael Kors

Watching kids playing on the beach never gets boring.
After a nice lunch (prepared by yours truly, in the room!) I went in search of yet more visual inspirations...the little treasures all around me.
 Bling + Shoes = Bliss!

I adore the design of this steel casing outside one of the boutiques.

A boutique's fresh display

Another fabulous chandelier. Did I mention that I LOVE chandeliers?

An arabesque design on the  lobby carpet.

Throughout the hotel there are these incredible glass sculptures by the artist Dale Chihuly.

Hope you enjoyed this little peek into some of the beauty on the Jersey Shore. Can't wait to share more!

  1. Wow it all looks so amazing. Your pictures look like how summer should be, not drenched in rain like it is over here in the UK at the moment. I love the picture of the Pier and the colours of the sky, looks magical. x
