FROM THE 'TRENCHES' OF IRENE

Sunday, August 28, 2011

So if you're on the East Coast I hope you're all staying safe from the wrath of Irene. As of now it's on its pathway up the coast towards the Jersey Shore where I am posting from. (I'm not exactly on the shore, I'm about 15 miles inland.) Thank God I have electricity, but I'm keeping my laptop and iPhone plugged in so if I lose power I will have full charges. And what else to do on a windy, rainy Saturday night than post a blog on fabulous rain gear...specifically, trench coats. Come on, let's make lemonade out of this lemon!

Trench coats are perennially in fashion for both kids and adults. They are classic, chic and the perfect cover-up for a rainy day:

Even in dreary weather there's no reason to not be fabulous!
So what are you doing to ride out the storm? (Or if you're not in the storm area, what are you doing over the weekend?) How about shopping for some cool rain gear?

After writing this post I do have a confession to make: I've never thought of myself as a trench coat kind of girl...I've actually never owned one. But now I think I have to get one. Help me out and tell me which on you'd  recommend for me...

Looking forward to your responses!

  2. Thank you for the distraction - I needed that as we have not had power since last night at 11 and got little sleep. Anyway, I hope everyone is safe and dry today. To catch up on fall fashion I'm reading the New York Times style magazine. We will take a walk later and check in on my parents who live 4 doors down.

I'm not a big trench coat fan... for me, though I like the classic look on others, especially the darling little girl in the above pic. I'm thinking about getting one with some interesting design feature - like a pattern or metallic sheen, or ruffles or ruching. I keep seeing one such trench coat by rainforest that I keep thinking about buying. The color is cognac and it has a big stand up color and ruching down the placket. I think you can see it at rainforest.com

  3. Great job! Love the grey trench (photo 8). The Hilfiger is reasonably priced and classic enough to stand the test of time. I'm not a trench person either, but when I found a Catherine Malandrino deep purple silk trench on eBay years ago, I scoffed it up, and still wear it today. Not practical for rain but gorgeous.

THANK YOU FOR COMING TO VISIT ME TODAY and for your lovely words on my post. I love to write and compose and just try to make a fun spot for different interests. Audrey Hepburn and French décor, FASHION and poetry are all things I enjoy. Please come by anytime and DO PLEASE STAY SAFE! I have a great blogger pal in Washington, NJ and I am worried about her. She has not contacted me and I fear she may have lost power. But you are plugged in???

BE WELL and after the storm is over, a good trench is going to come in handy.

  8. You can't go wrong with a trench for autumn - or what's commonly known as "the British summer" ;-) I've had quite a few over the years and love the fact that they look stylish with jeans or a dress and that they're a timeless classic. Just stick to the classic cut/shape.

Glad to hear you're safe and well, have a great week, Love from London xo
