NEW YORK FASHION WEEK - A PEEK INTO SPRING 2012

Sunday, September 11, 2011

As I sit halfway across the world from New York, I find it amazing how I can happily report on NYFW thanks to the (almost) instant internet coverage. One thing I notice as I try to spot some themes for  Spring 2012 fashion is...there are no themes! It seems the designers just went with their creativity offering us a hodgepodge of sometimes colorful (or not), sometimes edgy (or not), and sometimes retro (or not) looks. I have to admit that as the catwalk photos roll in, I do feel slightly out of my 'fashion comfort zone'. But do have an open mind; there is definitely a fun element of surprise to be had.

Here I share with you some highlights, in no particular order. Through the randomness of the photos can you spot a particular theme for Spring 2012 Fashion? If so please do share your thoughts!

Hmmm...maybe I do see a trend pattern emerging...

Neon Brights
Graphic Prints
Retro 80's Styling
Roomy, Boxlike Cuts

As a child of the 80's can I do this all over?  Like I said before, I'm slightly out of my fashion comfort zone here. But, with an open mind these looks may actually grow on me. How about you?

Stay tuned for more from NYFW...

  2. Yes, definitely a trip back to the 80s. I agree with the patterns you see plus color blocking (I wasn't a huge fan of it back then so doubt I will run out and buy tons of it this time). I don't have an overall issue with the 80's derived looks but there are pieces here I like but would not wear the way they have. Maybe it's too soon to say but I think this could be a season where the "runway" look will be intepreted differently for the "realway" look. It's funny because I don't feel that way about fall...

  3. Hi Sharon, I'm coming over from Enchanted Home's blog where you commented on Tina's post for "By Invitation Only." I'm Marsha, the producer of this event, and I just want to say thank you so much for appreciating the loveliness going on with these posts, and the brilliance of the women who have been invited. I, too, am overwhelmed with all the beautifulness going on and so appreciate your comment. Thank you so so much....

  6. Love those stripes from Derek Lam - something we could actually wear! And glad to see floor length skirts/dresses are everywhere, we're not quite ready to turn ours in! JS xx
