A BRAVE NEW YEAR!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

I hope you all had a fabulous New Year's Eve! Have you thought about your resolutions yet? When it comes to resolutions...although they may be well meant, they usually don't last very long. Did you ever wonder what the underlying reason for that is?

Well, it's just not enough to think about what you want to do;  there is a key ingredient that we need to incorporate into our lives if we want to accomplish our dreams. In the words of my friend, Michal Weinstein, the super talented web and graphic designer of MLW Design, you simply need to be brave.

I only met Michal a couple of months ago and we immediately became fast friends. She is the type of woman I completely admire: She's smart, beautiful, gracious, and generous. She built up her web and graphic design business using her amazing talents and friendly 'people person' skills, and has headed super successful and glamorous fundraising events for amazing causes. She's a person that seems bigger than life...someone who makes things happen.
Michal and I, the night we met at a fundraising event.

So what's her secret? She is brave. She takes risks. This past Friday I was on the phone with her and we were discussing the secret to successful people. I have always been one to push myself outside my comfort zone to grow as person and do things I was afraid of in the name of accomplishing my dreams. People have asked me, "How did you get to running the so and so charity event?" or "How did you know how to start a blog?" Well, again, the answer is simple. I have no super powers, and neither does Michal...we are simply brave in the face of insecurity and fear.

So, here, on the first day of a brand smacking new year, it really doesn't matter what your resolutions are. It only matters that if you truly dream of accomplishing something, whether it be losing weight, starting your own business, or making new friends...when you decide you truly want to do something, push through your discomfort and do the hard work that it takes to get there. Be bold. Be brave!

And finally, if you're a parent, this one's especially important:

Right before I wrote this post, I opened an email of this glorious video from my Mom and thought, how perfect is the metaphor of a flower reaching its potential for this post? Remember, if you are brave, great things will happen and you will blossom!

If you have any graphic and web design needs, definitely check out Michal's website. I promise you will not be disappointed. Like her facebook page too.

Luv ya Michal!

  5. Thank you Sharon for the kind words! I admire you equally because you make it your business to inspire everyone to be the best they can be. And it is so true that the secret to everything is bravery because just wanting change or a better life is not enough, you need action. (And action takes guts)
I love the quote you posted about not being afraid to look stupid. Too many people are debilitated out of fear of just that. I tell my children who often are faced with challenges that to them appear scary that you have to always say "What's the worst thing that could happen?" Most of the time the worst thing isn't even that scary.
Wishing everyone a Brave new year!

  6. I never make resolutions since like you said they never last and why set myself up for failure like that? So I don’t make them. I agree with all those quotes and pretty much live my life like that since I figure I have nothing to lose. BTW you and Michal look FABULOUS!

Happy New Year to you and your family!
