FRIDAY FOOD, FASHION (SHOW) AND FAVORITE! PLUS ANOTHER GIVEAWAY!

Friday, December 30, 2011

OMG! It's been an insane week. Is it Friday already?? I love being busy but I hate when I fall behind on blog posts.  So this week I have a combined post. I love the Friday Food and Favorites but I also want to share one of the really cool events I attended this week.

This past Wednesday I attended a fashion show hosted by Royal Runway Productions to benefit the Puah Institute, an organization that helps couples who suffer with infertility issues. (If you would like to donate to this organization please email me at ask.fashionisha@gmail.com for more info.) Yesterday was also my friend's birthday, so we decided to go out and enjoy a night of fashion and glamour for a good cause. Of course, I was so excited about the event that I forgot to bring my good camera.  So, armed with just my dying iPhone I snapped some really bad pictures.

With the help of iPhoto and Instagram I salvaged some snapshots of the evening...the pictures may not be great....but let's just call them artsy!

Okay who doesn't love a tapered pencil skirt...but we could do without the spooky eyes!
I love the lighting effects!

Me and my fabulous friends!

Here's Chavi...she an amazing and beautiful woman who has the talent of accomplishing more things in one day than most women can do in a month!  Love those necklaces!
Mimi (from LadyMama blog) and I strike a pose!
Here's my newest Fashion-isha friend, the sister of the fabulous LadyMama, who rocked a gorgeous sequined skirt from Zara.

I snuck backstage to capture some of  the gorgeous outfits before the show....

I love the draping and artistic prints of these gorgeous frocks!

The fashion was mostly modest and completely gorgeous. I really enjoyed the creative and relaxed vibe of the entire evening!

Now...are you hungry yet?? Good! Cuz it's time for our food and favorites for the weekend!

Friday Food:

This past week I was thrilled to receive a fabulous new cookbook to give away to one lucky reader! The book is called Dare to be Different, Dazzling Dishes by Robin Jamal, and is a culmination of traditional middle eastern kosher fare. To order your own cookbook check out her site HERE!

As I've written in previous posts, I think it's really important to eat a healthy Friday lunch. It definitely sets the tone for healthy eating over the weekend.  As I flipped through the new cookbook, I was so inspired by the change of pace from my usual Ashkenazi (Eastern European traditional) cooking style.

I chose the following recipe to try for a healthy change up and a perfect Friday afternoon lunch. Here it is:

Quinoa with Artichokes, Apricots and Caramelized Shallots
Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups of quinoa
6 shallots chopped
1 bag artichoke hearts, sliced
10 dried apricots chopped
zest of 1 lemon
6 cashews chopped
salt
pepper
feta cheese

Dressing:

1 bunch fresh basil
1/2 c. olive oil
1/4 c. red wine vinegar
1 clove garlic
1 tsp. dijon mustard
1 tsp. lemon juice
1 1/2 tsp. honey
salt
pepper

Make 1 1/2 cups of quinoa according to package directions.

In a wide skillet pan, saute 6 shallots until soft. Add 1 bag of artichoke hearts, sliced thin. Add salt and pepper and cook on a high flame until artichokes begin to crisp. Add chopped apricots and cook for a few minutes longer.

Add shallot/apricot mixture to quinoi.

Clean and dry basil and blend in food processor. Add and blend the rest of the dressing ingredients. Spoon 4-6 tablespoons of dressing over quinoi.

Garnish with lemon zest and chopped cashews. Sprinkle feta around quinoi and serve.

This recipe is just a sampling of the fabulous and unique food combos found in this cookbook! Enter to win your own copy now!

This entry is open to all my followers on Google Friend Connect, Facebook and Twitter. If you're already following, all you have to do is leave a comment telling me what your favorite healthy lunch is. (Please make sure to leave an email address or link to contact you if you win...if you post with just your first name or anonymous, I won't be able to find you!)

Contest ends next Thursday, January 5, at 12 midnight

And now for a Friday Favorite:
At the mall yesterday, I came across these fabulous Vince Camuto color blocked shoes (they come in other colors too) and decided to share them with you as my Friday Favorite. I didn't end up buying them because the practical side of me kept saying, "You really don't need them, and anyway, where would you actually wear them to?"
So I left them all alone in Nordstrom, but first I shot a picture of them to share and get your opinions. Do you think these beauties should get a new home in my closet? Do you crave your own pair? Well they must be new because I could not find them online...but you can get a similar pair HERE

Oh, and one more thing...as a New Year's gift I am extending the eyebrow shaping giveaway for another week! So now there are two giveaways to enter and WIN!!
See entry details HERE.

Wishing everyone a beautiful weekend and a happy New Year!!

Cheers!!

  3. Why does that gal with the spooky eyes keep looking up? She's freaking me out!...lol. What a fabulous gift for your birthday friend and it looks like you all had fun. I could wear all those dresses but unfortunately not the shoes I'd would hurt myself on them and fashion doesn't look great without amazing shoes.

I hope you and you family have a wonderful New Year!
