TRANSITIONING YOUR WARDROBE FROM WINTER TO SPRING

Tuesday, March 13, 2012

Are you excited about incorporating all the refreshing spring trends we’ve been seeing in the stores and magazines into your wardrobe? Although it’s still chilly, and we’re no where near ready to pack away our tried and true winter clothes, you still can change up your look a bit while creating a smooth transition from winter into spring.
Three of my favorite must try looks for this Spring are candy colored pastels, rich tribal patterns, and for the more classic woman, the infusion of crisp white paired with winter colors and textures. Here I will show you how to put some looks together, for several different occasions, using elements from these trends. Each look is wearable now, and can move right into Spring with some minor outfit adjustments.
Trend #1: Candy Colored Pastels
Think it’s too early to pull out (or treat yourself to) some light colored clothing? Well think again. For work, why not try a gorgeous peach dress accessorized with a rich brown jacket, boots and accessories. For running errands on a warmer day, go ahead and pull out that cream skirt and pair it with a pastel jacket in a minty green or another pretty hue. Keep this look seasonal by adding some grey or some darker accessories. Now is also the time to start moving away from a too dark palette when planning for your Simchas and events. Think pale yellow, blush, mint green and powdery blue in elegant fabrics and textures like lace and tulle.
Trend #2: Rich Tribal Patterns
Pattern mixing is one of the hottest trends now, and although it’s one of the more difficult ones to master, it still doesn’t have to be completely intimidating. Simply use your eye to decide if you think two patterns coordinate. An easy way to get this look right is to start with a patterned dress and add a bold multicolored fur vest on top. You can also pair a plaid skirt with a striped top, the rule being, each piece should share one or two similar colors. Adding a third neutral color in the mix via a pair of mismatched tights creates a purposeful contrast that pulls the look all together. If this is not for you, and you’re more comfortable taking the safe route in fashion, do still add some exciting pattern to your wardrobe with a great dress or tunic, and simply throw on a solid jacket and a great cuff bracelet to tone down the look and keep it classic.
Trend #3: Classic White Infusion
There really is no better way to introduce Spring into your wardrobe than by adding crisp white directly to your winter pieces. On a sunny yet chilly day, why not pull your favorite white maxi skirt from the back of your closet and pair it with a cozy black sweater for a high fashion work look? Who says you have to save your white skirts for 80 degrees? And for your next black tie affair or wedding, try a classic tuxedo look by wearing a white dress shirt under a fitted black jacket. You can even add some lace appliques to your blouse or use a pretty ribbon as a necktie or belt to up the glam factor of your ensemble. And for a wonderful Shabbos look, pair a grey tweet or winter textured skirt with a modern white shirt, and finish with some sparkly gems and deeply colored lips.
I hope I’ve inspired you to try something new the next time you go to put an outfit together. Which trend will you try? Wishing you all a beautiful day!
