From Room to Groom with Vibrant Color Combo Canary and Eggplant

Monday, April 23, 2012

Back when I wrote the "I'm Baaack" blog, one of the photos I posted used a gorgeous composite of canary yellow and deep eggplant, and I loved it so much I decided to dedicate an entire post to those colors.

The rich and complex color of deep purple gets a dose of sunshine when paired with canary yellow. The two colors are also compliments on the color chart, meaning they are directly opposite each other, creating the most stimulating and visually exciting contrast. Other examples of complimentary colors are red and green, blue and orange etc. When I went to school for design I remember learning that the line between these type of color contrasts creates an actual visual 'vibration'. Stare at the contrast long enough and you will 'see' it. When colors are visually exciting they can foster a type of enjoyment in the brain. This is why so many of us love color and beautiful color compositions.

Here are some fabulous examples of how to wear, decorate and enjoy nature using these colors.

Tip: Add one item of clothing that compliments and contrasts your color scheme:
Line the top of your lid with black, the bottom waterline with white and sweep on a yellow shadow. Then take a thin brush and drag a line of purple along the bottom lid for an interesting eye makeup look.

Yellow tulips compliment purple lilacs for a perfect floral arrangement.
Balance bold colors in your decor with a neutral background.
This stand of fresh lavender in bright yellow tins is so fun.
Just as in decor, this colorful outfit tames up a bit with a neutral jacket and bag.

Sometimes going crazy with color will create that unique look you're going for.
Another gorgeous bouquet...there's a reason there are so many flowers in these colors.
This is may favorite! Whoever did this room got the balance just right...

...and you all know how I feel about the right balance ;)

  2. Sharon, I loved this post!! I've been eying a gorgeous canary skirt at the mall. I was thinking of pairing it w/ a cobalt blue top, but I have so much blue now and purple's one of my favorite colors- thanks for the inspiration! The flower arrangements and the eye shadow combo are stunning!! Now I know what flowers to buy this Shabbos :)

  3. Love it! It's not just about the contrast, the colors complement eachother in a strange way. The yellow makes the purple more purple! If that was a word. I'm waaaay conservative. Maaaybe if I had an accessory that had both colors in it. By the way, absolutely loved the interview and video of Allison from Jew in the City. Her video was so well done! I have to check out her blog.

  4. Yellow and purple are traditional Easter colours, and that makes us think about springtime. No wonder it makes you happy.

My favourite bright combination is orange and bright pink. Think gerbera daisies in those two shades - oh so lovely.

  6. Sharon,

This is one of those combinations that you wouldn't just think up. Spring has presented so many opportunities to combine unexpected colors ~ I love it! I would wear these colors and I like the maxi! No matter what your age, I think it's great to add a little trendy piece or fun colors to your wardrobe.

  15. I LOVE this colour combination! When I was very young I realized how well they go together, and since then I always get excited when I see them in harmony. Coincidently enough :P, they were my school colours in university. I especially love the last picture of the couch/chair/cushions etc. Gorgeous!

  22. I've had some time to read back on previous posts and am so amazed by your donor story. Awesome action of love. A close friend of mine also donated a kidney however, his was to his half sister.

Loving the colours in this post - it's the colours I choose for my room about 5 years back but could not find any linens in these shades, now it feels as thought they're at every turn.

    Have a fabulous day
