As the sun goes down on my last day of vacation, I can feel the seeds of inspiration starting to return. This coming Thursday, it will be four weeks since my surgery, and over two months since the entire amazing story of my kidney transplant transpired.
You know how when your phone starts to give you problems you can do a 'hard reset' that wipes out all the old stuff clogging up the device and gives it a new start? Well often during my recovery I would compare that reset to the way I felt. Before surgery I was somebody, and after, I felt like someone totally different. I had been passionate, energetic, fun and a little crazy. My appetite for the best possible life experience, not to mention the best food, was huge and endless. I loved the former; resented the latter. But not until the 'after', did I truly see clearly who I was...and I missed myself!
Well, as of today, I can truly say that I think I'm back! It was a very slow process; not like when you have the flu and feel awful one day, and then get up and feel ok the next. Every day over the last month was a teeny baby step towards recovery, and sometimes it was more like two steps forward, one step backward.
Going away for Pesach and basically sitting around doing nothing in the sun for 10 days was truly an amazing way to transform back to my old self. Not only did I take a break from blogging, but I've had a lot of time to to think. And I thought a lot about the question everyone always asks me when I tell them about my blog. What exactly is Fashion-isha?
Well simply stated, it's an expression of the fashionable woman, not just in clothing, but in all areas of life. Fashion-isha is a way for me, an imperfect woman with an imperfect life, to share my outlook and desire to live the most positive and beautiful life possible; and also to share some of the things that inspire me most.
Let's face it, life can be hard. The balancing act can get tiring and tedious, and we beat ourselves up for our inadequacies as well as feeling guilty for many of the things we love. Well I say: Love yourself with all your imperfections and allow the little pleasures to enhance all the maybe not so pleasant things, so you will be a happier, more fulfilled woman.
Balance can be hard, but when you get it just right, it's perfection.

"an imperfect woman, with an imperfect life" - Yes, that is it. We need to let ourselves off of the hook sometimes and accept that the imperfections are the real beauty within.

Welcome back and what an inspirational message! Thank you for the reminder about imperfection. There is beauty in this, definitely in self expression, creativity, tznius, taste/appetite, and your photos/message are like "one stop shopping" for all of these things! So glad you had the rest you needed!
ReplyDeleteSharon, I'm so glad to hear that you're starting to feel your energy returning ... it was such a courageous and beautiful thing you did and by giving a kidney, you've now become even MORE than you were before. Funny (and wonderful) how that works! Sending love and so glad you're back. (Thanks for stopping by to see me!)
