Spotlight on Designer: Hettie Hair Accessories And Giveaway!

Sunday, August 12, 2012

A while back I had the pleasure of stumbling upon Hettie Silovitz's Etsy Shop and fell in love with her gorgeous collection of hair accessories. Each piece is creatively designed with an eye for detail and a discerning customer in mind.

The collection includes one-of-a-kind fascinator hats, headbands, and french barrettes. Hettie generously sent me three pieces that I loved from her Etsy Shop to try out, and with the help of my Cannon powershot, an extended hand, a mirror, and some photo editing, I created this collage for you featuring the two headbands and one fascinator:

Now you can win one of these gorgeous pieces that I've chosen from the collection. Scroll down to the end of this post to enter!

But first I'd like to introduce you to the fabulous designer behind the brand. I asked Hettie a few questions about herself and her business in order to get to know her a little better and learn more about what she does:

Fashion-isha: What inspired you to create your line of hair accessories?

Hettie: I went to FIT and received my Bachelors in Fashion Merchandising and also took a few accessories and jewelry design classes on the side. After graduating, I worked in the cosmetics industry for 6 years as a sales manager. My most recent job was at Bergdorf Goodman, where I worked near the hair accessories department. That is when, I started a collection of headbands from different designers and fell in love with wearing them every day to style my outfits. After leaving the cosmetics world, I decided that I wanted to combine my passion for design and my love of hair accessories and start my own line!!

F: Where do you get your inspirations for your designs?

H: I read a lot of fashion magazines as well as different fashion blogs online.
I always stay current with what’s happening on the runways. I use a little bit of everything I see. Many of my designs have bold, bright colors that are whimsical and fun! I love using flowers, appliqués, crystals, and beads which adds a unique touch! I love working with silk, satin, lace, organza, ribbon, and pearls as well. Many of my pieces are also very elegant and delicate and are perfect for bridal and weddings.
F.  Tell us a little about your background and yourself.

H.  I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. I lived there up until one year ago when my husband and I moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I have always had a love of design and fashion, even from a very young age which is why I went to FIT. I love creating something new every day. When I photograph one of my finished pieces, it is a very rewarding to know I made that! I enjoy blending colors, fabrics, and appliqués to make something very unique, that no one else will have!

F:  If you could have lunch with one famous person dead or alive who would it be?

H: Coco Chanel, because her timeless fashion still lives on to this day! Her style was so elegant and classic. I incorporate a lot of that style into my sinamay hats and halo headbands!

F:  If you could travel anywhere in the world where would you go?

H: Paris, because it’s the fashion capitol of the world and I would love to visit their boutiques and see their fashion on the streets.

F:  Is there one specific designer whose styles you admire?

H: I like Marc Jacobs for his whimsical prints and patterns and use of bold colors. His designs are casual and elegant at the same time.
F:  Name three things you can't live without.

H: My Chloe brown leather tote bag, Roberto Cavali aviator sunglasses, Manolo Blahnik flats.

F:  How would you describe your personal style.

H: J. Crew classic with trendy accessories. I love stripes, the nautical look as well as Milly and Marc Jacobs dresses with fun prints!
F:  What are your goals for your business?

H: I would love to get into high-end department stores such as Bergdorf Goodman, Barneys, and Saks Fifth Avenue as well as smaller boutiques in the US that have the same style aesthetic.

Thanks Hettie!  May all your hard work and creativity result in achieving your dreams.

  4. If I could, I would buy everything in her Etsy shop. I absolutely love the halo headbands, especially the mint green silk flower halo headband and the navy blue lace flower beaded trim halo headband (I couldn't pick just one ;) ). My favorite one that Sharon is modeling is by far the crystal brown and gold ribbon headband.
