Wedding Wednesday: Creative Fashion in Sizes Way Too Small!

Wednesday, August 08, 2012

Before I start this post, I need to say that I just won't feel right unless I make an important disclaimer: The models featured here are WAY TOO THIN! I do not want to be accused of propagating eating disorders in our children, or in that case, ourselves. It appalls me that models are getting thinner and thinner despite the ever increasing awareness of eating disorders in our society today.

The models here look unhealthy and unnatural, and no human woman should aspire to look like this! That being said, I do love the creativity of the fashion here and I truly believe that all of these dresses would look fabulous on a woman of any size (well maybe not the white sheath, but the overlay with the tassels is divine).

And finally, I ended this post with two shorter looks, appropriate for the more casual wedding guest. Although different styles, they are both divine and refined, and perhaps a bit more realistic to wear.

Remember, models STARVE themselves to look the way they do. Let's get the message out there to the industry that we want to start seeing models that look like REAL women.  I personally would love to see some more curves on models. They can be fit, they can even be slim; but they should not look ill!!

Would you love fashion as much if the models were bigger?

Always remember, you are beautiful just as your are!

Happy Wedding Wednesday,
xo
Sharon

  1. Thank you for saying what I have been thinking for a long time. Being thin is great but the message these models give off by looking that way is terrible. Beautiful dresses though!

  3. I've worked on many photo shoots and I'm amazed how much some of the models eat - seems they got some of the active metabolism missing from my body! I think that some of the images are not to scale {even William looks much thinner}.

I like the Temperley London dress in lace - I think it might be Minny Driver wearing it. It is a classic.

  5. Hey gorgeous, this is one wonderful post. I totally agree with what you're saying about starving, I've seen them "eat" and it's not pretty.
One day someone will invent a machine/robot defining the perfect model, it will walk all the runways showing the clothes, which is ALL the designers want to do anyway, and we will think back to these days when the thinness had so much impact on our young girls. Love you...

  6. I completely agree with the fact that models are WAY too thin and should not represent the standard we should compare outselves to, but I think we should also be sensitive to the fact that some (ok, very few) people are naturally very thin, and we should not decree that to be disgusting. Healthy is beautiful, and whatever healthy looks like should be ok. The point is to appreciate ALL healthy bodies, all shapes and sizes, not shaming those who happen to be born with the super tall and thin gene. Just a thought from someone who was a former (super healthy yet very skinny) ballet dancer who is now a (not as skinny as I used to be but still healthy) psychologist! :)

  10. I completely agree. Remember when Marilyn Monroe and more shapely woman were considered sex symbols? It's just unrealistic and sets a poor precedence for teenage girls who want to look like the models in the magazine. xo

  13. Hi Sharon,
Love the Stephane dresses! Superb, but yes I have to agree on models being extremely too thin... In turn so is Hollywood. It's sad & truly hope this changes. Awareness is key! xoxo

  14. It is really true that today’s models have becoming thinner and thinner. But it doesn’t mean that they are not eating. They don’t eat small rather they eat smart. They maintain a healthy life style consist of good eating and smart exercise routine. They are maintaining a sexy and adorable figure.
