I finally did it...I created my own media kit! I've been wanting to do this since September 2011 when I first heard what a media kit was from Ari Goldberg of Stylecaster at the Independent Fashion Blogger Conference. Blogger friends, pay attention: If you want brands to take your blog seriously as a reliable media source and a vehicle for advertising and marketing, you need to have a professional media kit so potential advertisers have clear access to all of your blog information and statistics.
But let me take a few steps backwards here. Just two short years ago, if you would have told me I'd be a successful modest fashion and lifestyle blogger I probably would have rolled my eyes and laughed at you. I was a stay at home Mom who "worked" as a volunteer event planner and designer and hadn't had a real job in years. As my kids grew older, I explored different ideas to find 'my thing' outside the home. I had designed and created a small line of clothing that actually made it into some stores. And the fact that my label sat on someone's hip was a true success story for me. But this only lasted for one season. The manufacturer messed up with the sizing and I had boxes of returns. I was so emotionally invested in my business that this 'failure' took its toll on me and I never went back to work on the line for the next season. (Although I am planning a relaunch soon!)
One day over coffee, a friend of mine told me about her idea for a website she was working on that would feature various topics of interest for women written by women, and I jokingly said, "I'll be your fashion blogger." She loved the idea and I went about writing up my first blog post. Unfortunately, the site wasn't ready for me, but the blog bug had bitten me. I wanted to get online right away, more than I wanted anything in a long time. So I googled and googled and taught myself how to start a blog, how to do graphics and how to get the most out of social media. And I discovered I was a decent writer, and that I was good at being a blogger. And the rest is history.
So take a look at my media kit below...I'd love to hear your thoughts on it. If you're a blogger, feel free to use this as a template for creating your own media kit, or contact me to help you create a unique one for your blog.
And if you're a brand, email me at ask.fashionisha@gmail.com for more information about the advertising and marketing opportunities I can offer you. I'm happy to say my stats are going up daily and my prices will be going up in the near future as well. (See current rates HERE.) So take advantage now and buy your November ad space and/or schedule your custom promotional post. If you sign up before November 1, you will receive 15% off my already super low rates! I'm looking forward to working with you.

Looks great Sharon Glad to see you are well on your way to becoming such an advertising mecca! The media kit looks great, mine has been done as well but I have been doing very well without one actually. Now it is time to take it to the next level. For both of us. Best of luck !!
ReplyDeleteWow, this is fantastic, I think I was also one of those gals who watch Ari speak with such passion about media kits that I ought to have done one by now too!

ReplyDeleteSharon, thanks so much as a beginner blogger I was intimidated by the idea of a media sheet. Your blog is an inspiration to us "frum" women in Toronto. Thanks so much. Simone

Congratulations Sharon!! This is really exciting. :) I wish I could say my blog is my world but I'd rather be styling. My blog is just a fun place to share with like minded women at this point. Anyway, VERY happy for you. You deserve all the best. You are a treasure to the blogging community Sharon.

This is great to know! I got a call from HomeGoods to be one of their featured bloggers on their website for Stylescope and I had to pinch myself to see if it was real! I think I need to do a media kit for sure because I've been getting emails for opportunities to work with other companies. Great advise!
