Outfit Post with Kiki Riki - Part I: Leather and Studs Modestly Styled

Wednesday, December 19, 2012

I've been wanting to work with Kiki Riki for a long time now. As everyone who knows me knows, I live in Kiki Riki shells almost every single day. But did you know that Kiki Riki also has a full line of dresses and skirts?

I recently met with the Kiki Riki people in New York and was blown away by the fun and fabulous array of fabulously designed pieces they offer. From the basic tee shirts and denim skirts that we live in to some really cool skirts and dresses, the company offer quality and style that all of us would enjoy.

Kiki Riki knows they have a huge base of customers in the modest dressing market because of their comfortable shells that come in every color imaginable. But styling a maybe-too-short dress for modesty can sometimes be daunting and deterring, so I decided to show you how to style this fabulous gold studded dress made by Kiki Riki. This is only one of the adorable and super comfortable dresses in their collection and I hope to show you lots more of what this versatile fashion company offers.

Now I know that lots of you may not go for the dress-over-skirt look, but once you embrace the idea that your dress is more of a tunic, the options become endless. And since I'm the kind of person that believes in doing things boldly, I decided that instead of trying to match up the fabric of the dress, I'd go with a completely different texture, and wear this dress with a (p)leather pencil skirt. Going obvious with the under layer says, "I'm creative and unafraid to create my own style," and the bordeaux shell underneath adds another level of excitement to the overall look.

For those of you who are skeptics of this modest layering look, I must tell you that in the streets of New York I have been stopped and told how fabulous I look. A dress by itself is just a dress. But with the use of shells and skirts as color and texture blocking, you can easily create your own unique 'dress' many times over in many different ways.

Layering will also open up an entire world to you when it comes to shopping. All of the sudden the not-long-enough skirt or dress is accessable. And if you don't believe me that wearing shirts under dresses can be super fashionable...well, see my post HERE.

Last year I was at a blogger get together for Jessica Alba's company, The Honest Company, and as I was chatting with one of my blogger friends trying to explain to her that you can be an Orthodox Jew who dresses modestly and still be fabulous, she looked me up and down and said, "Well you're not dressed like that." But I was. And I somehow styled myself in a way that was fabulous enough to not stereotype me, yet still conform to my standards. When I pointed that out, she said, "Wow, you're right. You've got to tell me where to get those layering pieces!"
And my answer is always Kiki Riki.

I can't wait to style my next Kiki Riki outfit! Stay tuned for Part II -Styling the Perfect Jean Skirt
