An Open Letter To NYFW and A Miami Marathon Re-Cap

Wednesday, February 05, 2014

Dear New York Fashion Week,

I recently heard that you're not so into me (as a blogger) and that's fine by me.  I just wanted to let you know that I will NOT be chasing after you this year. After all, the most coveted front row seat in the house has actually moved…into my house.

Sure I used to die for those fancy invites. But now I get tons of them. Virtual invites that with just a click will bring me full and immediate access to what will be this Fall's most inspired new styles. Does that make me not special? Well I'm sorry, I don't need you to make me feel special.

And then, of course, I have my beloved and lovely assistant, She meticulously organizes, categorizes and emails every detail of the shows to me within the day. Who could ask for more?

But wait. I may be having doubts. Perhaps I'll miss the intimate interactions that we've had over the past few years. The ones where your narcissism rears its beautiful head and shows me that nothing else matters in the world except who is wearing who's clothes. And of course, the fact that only certain genetically blessed women and men really count.  It's the genes they were born with that really matter…accomplishments, intelligence, and kindness are completely irrelevant.

Nah…on second thought, I don't think I'll miss you at all. Of course, if I make it to the city I may stop by just to say hi - after all I do enjoy your creative energy. And who doesn't love a little bit of fun street style?

But don't you worry your pretty little head, I will always try to find the good in you. After all, I still do love you, just not enough to believe that you're the end all and be all in my life. So, toodaloo...

Air kisses,

Now, onto the next...

If you've been following on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram you know that this past Sunday I ran in the Miami Marathon with Team Lifeline on Team Eli. What an amazing experience it was! Now that's an intimate interaction I would love to revisit again. Doing something so difficult and meaningful like training intensively and running for a cause has changed me in so many ways, physically, mentally, and spiritually.

I love throwing around quotes like: life begins outside your comfort zone, believe you can and you can, if your dreams don't scare you they're not big enough…etc. But actually living them and accomplishing is a whole different life experience.

So take a look, get inspired, and remember that whatever you want to do…it's out there for you.

Friday: Sarah Lasry (The Patchke Princess) and I receive our tees.

Meeting Eli, the REAL hero, is the highlight of my trip!

Sunday, 6:00am: We're pumped and ready to do this thing!

7am: We're off as the sun rises over the causeway at mile one...
 Mile 8! We're getting there...
Almost at the finish line...

9:40 am: I get my medal!
Post party drinks with (from right to left) Sarah Lasry, Ayala Back - organizer of Team Eli, and Bassy Gradon - Eli's mom
And the best part? We get to indulge in fast food for dinner!

Inspired to do something BIG?  Believe you can, discard your fear of failure (if you never try you're guaranteed failure anyway, so at least give yourself a running chance), and then get out there and go!

I'd like to give a special shout out to my very dear friend Osnate Weinstein for hosting us over the weekend. We had an amazing time…she is truly the most gracious and fun friend a girl can have!
So here's the question…do I hit Fashion Week or the gym?? I think a little bit of both!

Until next time,

  5. Sharon, you are a class act all the way, INSIDE and out! Haters gonna hate, but at the end of the day you know that middos and chessed are what counts in life.

I feel sorry for people who are so caught up in the shallow, fleeting things. That's the main reason why I dropped out of runway modeling. The values were just not there for me.

Being a decent person is the meat and potatoes of life. Looking good while doing it is just the icing on the cake. You're the full meal deal!
