6 Principles for productive and happy living plus Tour de Simcha!

Sunday, May 18, 2014

I have a few basic principles I live by in order to have a happy and productive life. And if you've been following me here and on Facebook and Instagram, you probably already have an idea what they are:

Here are some of them:

1. Do for others - Getting busy doing for others takes the focus off of your own problems.

2. Go outside your comfort zone - If it's not hard you're not growing, period.

3. Imperfect is perfect - No one is perfect so stop thinking you're less or inadequate, and stop using your imperfections as an excuse to not do those hard things.

4. Pay it forward - Small positive actions CAN change the world, the positive energy goes on endlessly.

5. Fear is an illusion - Just do it! You'll figure out how after you make the commitment.

6. Take care of yourself - You're beautiful and worthy of self love.

Speaking of which, this Spring, my next big thing is training for the Tour de Simcha, the amazing bike-a-thon happening this July 2 to raise money for Chai Lifeline's Camp Simcha. We ride 70 something miles in the hills of the Catskills right into the cheering masses of the kids and staff of Camp Simcha.

They say there is nothing in the world that comes close to that exhilarating feeling!

And you can still sign up to be a part of this amazing experience! (Learn more about Tour de Simcha and sign up here:  http://www.chailifeline.org/events/letourdesimcha/index.php). Just think, every pedal will not only help you get into shape (see number 6 above), but is part of the huge chesed of helping kids and families dealing with the devastation of cancer, and allowing the kids to enjoy a happy summer in camp.

Don't think you can do it?  Well you can! (see numbers 2 & 5 above) I personally haven't ridden a bike in about 10 years, and the first time I trained I did 28 miles! (We won't discuss what my bottom felt like but that's a different story.)

For those of you who are not familiar with Chai Lifeline or Camp Simcha, take a moment to watch these incredible, inspiring videos. Just make sure you have a box of tissues nearby. And then take out your credit card and sponsor my teammates who's links are listed below. Any amount will make a huge difference (see number 4 above).

  3. Hi there! I'm in the process of an Orthodox conversion, and I'm so glad I found your site! I'm having a hard time bringing myself to donate all my pants and short sleeve shirts, so I'm consoling myself by thinking of all the pretty, tzanua outfits I'll be wearing from now on :) Keep writing!
