"You with the sad eyes
Don't be discouraged
Oh I realize
It's hard to take courage
In a world full of people
You can lose sight of it all
And the darkness inside you
Can make you feel so small
But I see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that's why I love you
So don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful,
Like a rainbow"
Don't be discouraged
Oh I realize
It's hard to take courage
In a world full of people
You can lose sight of it all
And the darkness inside you
Can make you feel so small
But I see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that's why I love you
So don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful,
Like a rainbow"
-Cyndi Lauper

Today's style post features this amazing skirt, an explosion of color, designed by my gorgeous friend Fruma (also known on Instagram as @Frumay_b), bold accessories from Trinkettes, and another incredible makeover by Gitty Berger.
But I ask, what happened to color? To the individual? To our personal true colors?
It seems we live in a society of sameness. If we are not the same then something is wrong with us, with our children, with our spouses. We are constantly seeking the approval of our friends and their mothers-in-law and their cousins before we can arrive at any decision about what to wear, how to decorate, how to behave, and even what to serve our families on Shabbos and Yom Tov.
Honestly, it's all so exhausting.
I've felt the pain and have watched friends become sick with thoughts of being perceived as different, or embarrassed to the point of dishonesty about how they really felt about...well almost everything.
And here's what I've learned: When you finally accept and embrace your own unique idiosyncrasies, that's when the world will too. Remember, Hashem created every human being to be unique. He gave us a world of endless color. Why would our true colors be anything but beautiful like a rainbow?
Unfortunately, sometimes we get a harsh reminder that life is short and tomorrow is unknown. But that shouldn't depress us! It should inspire us to live colorfully. Live vibrantly. Live with gratitude. And be your best self!
Because after all, life is clearly not black and white.
