A Rosh Hashana Gift For You...You're Welcome

Wednesday, September 09, 2015

If you read this blog, you probably know pretty much everything about me. But I'll let you in on a little secret you may not know. I have major anxiety when it comes to cooking for Yom Tov.

I've found out over the years that I'm not the only one.  Pretty much every Jewish woman I speak to confesses that at some point they are stressed out or get fed up about the cooking and food situation. Sure if we made Thanksgiving dinner once a year it would be a fun adventure; but in the month of Tishrei we have to make about 15 of those dinners NOT counting the Shabbosim in between.
Me and my bird, last Thanksgiving.

We are all brilliantly creative when it comes to food, but, come on! How many combinations of cows, chickens and potatoes can we really come up with? And to add insult to injury, it's never good enough to have just a simple meal. The food has to be unique, delicious, original, beautiful, artful, impressive and abundant. At. Every. Single. Meal.

I have nightmares about a room full hungry people and having only one package of uncooked, frozen chicken on the counter as I stutter in a panic, "Buuuttt, OMG what am I going to do?? And how am I going to feed these poor starving souls?" (Pulease...I never understood how anyone is ever hungry on Yom Tov after the first 10k calorie food gorge anyway.)

So what's the antidote to all of this angst? Organized menus and lists of course! So I decided to go digital this year, and planned my menu on my computer with links to some recipes I found on Pinterest. And then I realized what a great post it would make if I shared it with all of you.  So here is my little Yom Tov gift to you.

I'm sure many of you have already done your planning and cooking, but for those of you who are like me (think deer caught in headlight paralyzed in fear until the last second)...well...you're welcome!
