I really enjoy helping new designers get started on the road to successful fashion careers. And when the said designer is from a family I've know for years that's rooted in my home town and driven by the motivation to help people look fabulous in an affordable way, well that's even better.
I'd like to introduce you all to Silhouette, a new line of ready-to-wear and custom evening gowns that satisfy the fashion cravings of those who desire original and modest dresses that are affordable too.

Want to learn more? Read the interview below with Silhouette designer Chaya Grunwald:

Fashion-isha: Tell us a little about Silhouette.

Chaya: Silhouette sells and rents evening dresses for brides, bridesmaids, sisters and mothers. We have ready-to-wear stock, plus we offer custom sales/rentals for those who'd like to create the dress of their dreams. I have an incredible seamstress on staff who can do anything and everything when it comes to sewing your perfect gown!

F. What inspired you to start your fashion business?

C.  I was inspired to create Silhouette after seeing how hard it was to find great gowns at decent prices. My friend had 3 family weddings within 3 months, and spent $1700 to rent 3 dresses, with nothing to show at the end!! I thought that was crazy! And yet the less expensive places only carried gowns which were out of date and not appealing to the fashion forward modest woman. So I decided to create a company that offers trendy, designer inspired dresses at half the price of the average rental.

F. What is the ultimate goal you wish to achieve for your line of dresses?

C. I hope to be able to offer the dress of every modest woman's dreams for her event, at prices she can afford.

F. What inspires you when creating the designs for your line?

C.  I am mostly inspired by watching runway shows and looking at collections of premier designers. I've always been slightly obsessed with fashion and the concept of design. I love taking incredible dresses and recreating them in modest versions. Whenever I see a dress with an interesting detail I bookmark it so I can go back for inspiration. I'm currently taking courses at Parsons School of Design, where I'm taught all the aspects of design, and how to gain inspiration in the process.

F.  Tell me anything else you'd like the Fashion-isha readers to learn about your company

C.  I've always enjoyed wearing clothing that are unique and one of a kind. I will never get a dress or skirt that I've seen on three other people! At Silhouette we aim to create beautiful, yet unique styles, that you won't  see at the average Gemach or department store. And the option for creating your own custom gown also embodies this concept.

F.  What's your personal style?

C.  I love dressing classy, but not boring. I think Kate Middleton is my favorite fashion icon. She exudes class and elegance while still staying trendy and current. While that style is by far my favorite, I do enjoy playing around with fashion, sometimes going edgier or preppier, depending on the occasion and my mood!

F. Do you find it to be a challenge to be fashionable and modest at the same time? What are some of the things to you do to overcome this challenge?

C.  I've actually never really felt like it's difficult to be modest and fashionable. If you look at top level designers, you will find that most of their clothing falls generally within the realm of tznius. I think that the two concepts aren't contradictory at all! The only thing I've ever had a hard time with was skirts. Being slightly on the tall side, with long legs, it can be hard to find skirts that cover the knees. Interestingly enough, in recent years its become in style to wear longer skirts.  Harper's Bazaar recently had an article about 'the new skirt length'- below the knee! Before this was the trend, I often added to the length, or bought a slightly bigger size so the skirt would fall lower. I've also had a lot of skirts made up for me, because I enjoy creating clothes that are one-of-a-kind!

As you can see from the photos, each design is completely unique and utterly fabulous.
