We've all seen it done. We've all whispered our opinions on it. But could you? Would you sport shirt under strapless dress?
I've heard all of the criticisms...but it CAN be done. All you need is a little creativity and a big dose of confidence...after all, if style icon Olivia Palermo can do it with a Valentino dress, it must be a-ok...take a look:
Here are some styling tips to keep in mind when trying this trend:
1. Don't always stick with solids, try coordinating patterns and textures. Lace is a great choice under a softly patterned dress.
2. A button down shirt is an edgy alternative to a shell, and adds a cool tuxedo effect. Adorn with a pretty necklace to pull the pieces together.
3. When using a solid shell, take the liberty of embellishing it to coordinate with the dress. Or add embellishments to both to pull them together.
4. Try a turtleneck for a cozy winter look.
Will you be trying this any time soon? Let me know!

Hi Sharon, some of these looks I like some are too much. I like the sheer more subtle look of some.
ReplyDeleteI don't think you saw my post yesterday where I announced you as the winner of the signed Phoebe Howard book! Congrats..please email me your shipping details!
Sharon,
ReplyDeleteI admire you taste in fashion and all these choices are truly very nice!
To be honest,I think not everyone of us want to try wear shirt under strapless dress...
But indeed if you take a time and imagination, also using you advices,it must be really good!
Thank you for this post,
Wishing you wonderful week ahead, dear friend:)

Interesting way to style clothes but not something I would do. I've seen the celebrities (trying to) pull it off but it just see,s too contrived for my taste. Also has a hint of a jumper look to it which is way too young for me.
ReplyDeleteLovely post!
If the shirt underneath is well fitted it is a great look - although the first image the top was loose and it looked good too.
ReplyDeleteThese are great, I think with the right dress and top it works really wonderfully xx
ReplyDeleteI actually love the lace top under the strapless dress. I would try this in a heartbeat if I had a strapless dress! Hope you are enjoying Autumn. xo
ReplyDeletevery interesting..I think when you're super skinny you can pull off any look!
ReplyDeleteNot buying it...they all look awkward, like someone was trying on a dress over their other clothes. Instead of this, why not just buy a lovely dress with sleeves? There are lots out there...without the "interesting" mix and match look.
ReplyDeleteHi Sharon, I am not especially liking this look. too contrived most of the time and a bit gimmicky.
ReplyDeleteFor evening I just love a beautifully cut gown with gorgeous jewelry!
