Friday Favorite: A Big And Bold Black and White Skirt

Friday, November 01, 2013

It was this skirt, spotted at NYFW, that took my breath away and changed the way I wanted to dress for the new season. I had always loved pencil skirts to the knee; that was the style that flattered me the most. But this Tibi skirt changed all of that for me.

So when I saw a friend holding this similar skirt at a recent Nineteen Orange Vintage sale, I told her how fabulous I thought it was, and was secretly thrilled when she decided not to buy it. I snatched it without a second thought. This skirt is not silk, and it's not Tibi, but it's big and bold and creates a completely revolutionary look for me.

On a side note...while I was doing some of my searches for black and white skirts I came across this image:
It reminded my of a conversation I had with my friend this week. We were discussing the idea that when we're so busy that we can't even catch our breath, we wish we had some time to just relax. But when we're not that busy, we feel inadequate, as if we aren't doing enough.

I've spoken to enough women to know that this is a pretty common phenomenon. As women, we either feel completely frazzled, or hardly like we're enough. But I once heard a wonderful metaphor about music that can be applied to this concept. Without the spaces of silence in between the notes, music would just be unorganized loud noise displeasing to the ear.

Just like it's those spaces of silence that truly create the beauty in music, we all need our personal spaces of silence. And we need to not feel guilty about them. Because if we carve out time to just rest, or do some of the things we love, everything else we do will be so much more melodic.

And on that note, I wish you all a most restful and beautiful Shabbos and weekend...
With love,

Sharon
