Mad for the Midi

Monday, August 04, 2014

I'm really excited about fashion these days. More is more and that means bigger, bolder skirts paired with roomy tops = lots of divine and refined looks!

I know that in August we tend to start looking towards Fall fashion, but I'm still relishing in all of the options we have for summer. It's been a long time since walking out of the house feeling cool, classy and absolutely high fashion was so easy to pull off.  Full midi skirts are more delightful than dowdy these days, and although for the less tall amongst us this look can be challenging, an elongating nude heel is the perfect solution.

Here are some gorgeous ideas I've collected for you to get inspired and shop from (or bookmark the links for after the 9 days).

The unlikely pairing of a snow white midi with chambray creates a surprisingly pretty look. Add a neutral bag and shoes to blur the contrast.

Got the Monday blues? Grey skies above? Conquer that melancholy feeling with those exact colors! A flowing navy skirt looks great with a grey top, while a fun scarf brightens up the look. Before you know it, you'll be feeling fabulous.

Are you high on life?  Go with it by pairing an angelic cream lace midi with a creamy sweater and add a bit of edgy surprise with golden platform heels. The cream always rises to the top.
Extras: Fun clutch

Miroslavo Duma excels at fashion done well.  Florals need not be bright to be intriguing. An earthy sweater paired with a neutral floral skirt creates a deep and soothing ensemble, while snowy pointed pumps brighten the look.

Need to make a statement? Dress to impress with a vibrant purple skirt paired with a fun printed top. Add Valentino rock studs which are never a bad idea!

Feeling bold but don't want to overdo it? Tone down a cherry skirt with a soft grey sweater and accessorize with a leopard clutch for visual interest. Anchor the entire look with leg lengthening nude heels.

Fashion is supposed to be fun. Go a little crazy with a big printed skirt that takes the spotlight next to a simple cream blouse. Add copper shoes to up the fun factor even more.

Sometimes you just want to look as fresh and pretty as a field of flowers. So go for it! It's easy with a petite floral skirt, a white blouse and a classic cardigan.

And finally, my favorite style icon, Olivia Palermo, always seems to get that 'aidel' high fashion thing spot on. This coco and cream ensemble means business, and is perfect for those days that include serious school or work meetings.

Which looks will you try?

Until next time,

Sharon

  3. Sharon, I am plus size and already have an hourglass shape. Are midi skirts like you mention in your post also doable for someone with my figure, or is it not a good idea because it would look too wide/voluminous? thanks!

  5. I always feel more feminine in a mid length flowing skirt. It's very girly, flirty and somewhat nostalgic... especially with heels.
