Aaahh Joan Rivers, we are so sad you are gone, but I know you'd want us to be happy and laughing so we will always remember you with a HUGE smile.
It was an honor to know you!
Joan
was a huge fan of Renewal, the organization that helped me when I donated my kidney to a young mom, Orly Tyler, who is now my wonderful friend.
Joan was willing to do anything for Renewal and committed to helping us with our Couture for a Cause event to benefit Renewal. We were hoping she was going to be at our next event!
I met Joan at the Renewal office in Boro Park, Brooklyn, and we shmoozed about our matching nail polish and how she couldn't believe I had 5 kids! She immediately agreed to help us with a fundraising event.
The next time we saw her was surrounded by paparazzi at Lincoln Center during Fashion Week, and with the help of my friend Sarah Lasry of The Patchke Princess, we got her attention and she warmly hung out with us again and made sure we had her contact info to plan the event!
Unfortunately her sister passed away right before our Couture for a Cause fundraiser but she still kept her word and made an appearance at another small event for our VIP attendees.
She was gracious, kind, funny and kept complimenting how beautiful Jewish orthodox women looked and dressed.
My friend and Couture for a Cause co-chair, Michal Weinstein and I recently contacted Joan about speaking at an anti-media-bias rally for Israel and she immediately responded that she would love to help us but was going to be in L.A. on that day.
Whether you approve of plastic surgery and dirty jokes, or not, she was a beautiful soul who loved Israel and helping people.
How blessed have I been to have gotten to know her just a little.

Joan, you will be missed dearly; but don't worry, we will continue laughing and 'sparkling' just like you!

7. If you're afraid to wear something you love because you're scared of what people will say, definitely wear it!

ReplyDeleteRIP Joan Rivers
SO SAD! I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE :(
ReplyDeleteSharon I am so glad that you were able to know this amazing woman. I did not care for her language, however felt it was often for the camera effect. She did so much for charity and looked ageless to the end!
