March Musings...ATouch of Inspiration, Beauty and Fashion for You

Sunday, March 08, 2015

Welcome back to the blog! It's been a while since I've posted here, but you can always catch me daily on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter to keep up with what's going on in my world and the world of modest fashion and style from my perspective.

Meanwhile, March has arrived; a new month ripe with Spring's potential of hope and renewal.  Here are some random musings that have been floating around my head, plus some health, beauty and fashion tips to take with you into the new season.

GETTING INSPIRED

As long as you're alive, it's never too late to start fresh. Every day is another opportunity to take (or retake) the first steps towards your dreams and goals. Even if you've moved backwards from your goals and feel like all the energy you've expended in the past was for naught, it wasn't. It gave you practice, experience, and a taste of what you really want and CAN do.

Today, despite my own negative self talk, I went for a run after 5 week of not running. No more excuses! Snow on the path? Run on the road. Won't be able to do as much as I used to? Aim for one mile at a time. It's too cold? Ba! I trained for a marathon last year and ran when it was in the 20's! Today is a new day. A new day to pull yourself out of your rut!

Nike is right. Just do it!

HEALTH AND BEAUTY:

I've adopted some interesting health and beauty habits around two amazing products: green tea and coconut oil. They've both been spouted as miracle potions in and out of the body. Of course I make sure to use my Rodan+Fields Redefine regimen with the AMP roller every single day (when I don't I can actually see and feel and difference), but I also do some weird and witchy stuff that just makes me feel...well...pretty magical.

Every morning I make myself a cup of Yogi Positive Energy green tea and squeeze 1/2 lemon into it. I add a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar and sip this brew as I get ready for my day. But first, I remove the tea bag and rub it all over my face!

How does this fit into my Rodan+Fields regimen? I simply do it after I cleanse and tone and before I moisturize.

Now let's talk about coconut oil. I'm obsessed with the product and keep a jar in my kitchen and my bathroom.

My usual breakfast is a scrambled egg with some avocado on a slice of Ezekial bread. I always make my egg in a teaspoon of coconut oil and add some ground flax seed as well. While I'm doing this I rub some of the coconut oil into my hands and cuticles as well as my face!

Sounds bizarre? I would say that using a product simultaneously on the inside and out is the ultimate holistic approach to health and beauty. And for some reason, these weird rituals feel really nice, healthy and wholesome to me.

Here are some of my favorite other uses for coconut oil...

1. It soothes diaper rashes immediately. (Due to its antibacterial and anti fungal qualities.)
2. It soothes eczema immediately. (See above.)
3. It makes a super smoothing pre-wash hair conditioner - massage coconut oil into your hair 1/2 hour before your shower, then wash and condition normally.
4. Put a few tablespoons in a hot bath and you'll never emerge with dry skin again.
5. It's great for shaving legs. Model approved, you'll love the non-greasy sheen it leaves.
6. It's the perfect makeup remover and cleanser - Don't worry coconut oil will not clog your pores, it will simply remove the dirt and oil stuck inside them.

FASHION:

Do you ever wonder how some fashion bloggers afford their designer pieces and enough new clothes to create original outfits every day? It makes you wonder. Bloggers must make a lot of money, right? Wrong. Unless you're a top blogger with a mega contract, think again. In my experience, most brands don't want to pay bloggers to promote their products. That's why I support realistic fashion!

I plan on continuing to bring you affordable ways to pull great looks together. It is possible to be a stylish woman on a budget and still look like a million dollars. So much about fashion is the faux attitude that goes along with the clothes, so here's the secret: Wear what flatters you and makes you feel beautiful, and wear it with confidence. What you see and feel in yourself is what others will perceive about you, and designer labels and price tags become irrelevant.

Here are some of my latest affordable and realistic outfits:

And in case you haven't noticed, I adore flowers! Florals are the perfect all season pattern. They brighten up outfits in winter, and easily move into warmer weather with a joyful nod towards spring and summer.

  1. Sharon,
Great information on the skin regime, I need to explore it.
I love all of the Dolce inspired floral prints this season. I bought Guess floral malden sport slip shoes - black with pink roses. Suddenly I feel like spring may be closer.

  4. Sharon, I too have started using coconut oil under my night moisturizer. Are you using organic or a specific brand?
